A particular service offered by the business unit Special Metals Technology is the toll electron beam smelting of various refractory metals (for example niobium, tantalum and molybdenum). Heraeus is able to provide this special application thanks to our many years of experience in the melting of high purity niobium for superconductors, as well as the alloying of niobium and zirconium to NbZr using our own electron beam smelter.
