The business unit Special Metals Technology uses various cutting methods. Along with the traditional cutting wheel, other options include wire-cut, wire sawing and shearing in precision cutting bushings. These cutting bushings are designed in house and manufactured in our internal tooling shop. In this process, the selection of the cutting material is especially important.
Shearing means separating a material or workpiece by thrust or shearing forces that are greater than the shear strength of the material. Cutting to length is done with a cutting tool, for example.
Wire cuts from special and precious metal alloys—such as niobium zirconium 1%, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum and stainless steel, along with various precious metals and precious metal alloys—are made on semi-automatic and fully automatic machines.
Along with pure cutting, we also offer the option of including embossing (beading, head, flat portions, etc.) in a single production step.
